Douleur au talon et pied

Heel pain is a very common medical problem and is one of the main reasons why it is important to have an accurate diagnosis in order to be able to provide the appropriate treatments. The most common causes of heel pain and foot pain are plantar fasciitis and achillean tendinitis, but several other causes can be associated with heel pain.

PLANTAR FASCIITIS

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia which is a powerful ligament (fibrous band) that connects the bone of the heel to the toes. This membrane has the role of supporting the arch of the foot so that it does not collapse. When the fascia undergoes a stress that it is not able to withstand, it creates micro-tears in the fascia, thus creating the inflammatory process. The pain in the heel or in the ark will manifest itself. Plantar fasciitis is a very common condition that can be extremely painful if left untreated.

It is important to treat this problem as soon as the first symptoms appear to prevent plantar fasciitis from becoming chronic. Once the chronicity is installed, it will be much more difficult and time consuming to deal with this problem.

HEEL SPUR

Heel spur is a calcification of the plantar fascia at the place of its insertion on the bone of the heel. It is only visible on x-rays. This spine is not the cause of pain, but rather the inflammation produced by plantar fasciitis.

ACHILEAN TENDINITIS

Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of the Achilles tendon, the tendon connecting the calf muscles to the back of the heel bone.

Symptoms :

  • Pain behind the heel and / or behind the ankle
  • Pain experienced in the morning at the beginning or at the beginning of a sports session that gradually decreases after a few minutes
  • Pain after an extended period of certain sports (running, running / tilting)
  • Swelling of the Achilles tendon
  • Sensitivity to the touch of tendon

Causes :

  • Undue effort or excessive sport
  • Overuse of muscle
  • Repeated or sudden and unusual movements.
  • Incorrect alignment of the foot (flat foot or hollow foot)

SEVER DISEASE (CALCANEAL APOPHYSIS)

Sever's disease is an inflammation of the heel bone growth plaque. It occurs in children during periods of growth, between 8 and 16 years of age.

Symptoms :

  • Pain behind or under the heel that is increased with physical activity
  • Limping that can occur after intense activity

Causes :

  • Directly linked to an overuse of the Achilles tendon (regular practice of a sport or anything that involves a lot of movement in the heel and the ankle in particular)
  • Repeated practice of physical activity at the same time as rapid growth
  • More common in people with excessive foot pronation
