Plantar warts are contagious, so it is strongly advised to treat them to avoid proliferation on other areas of the foot and to avoid transmitting the virus to your surroundings. Treatment will also prevent the pain that warts can cause.
The main treatments we use in the clinic are the application of Canthacur-PS, a strong acid applied directly to the lesion, and injection of the wart with bleomycin sulphate, an agent that blocks the reproduction of virus. It is possible that the podiatrist chooses other treatment modalities, such as prescribing a drug to be applied at home or more invasive treatments, such as laser or curettage.
Several types of treatments are offered. An evaluation of the lesion by a podiatrist will determine the appropriate treatment.
